Again and again we are watching our young black teenagers die to gun violence, which leads me to wonder why are we still promoting that type of life in our music when so many people have lost their lives to gun violence? Just one year ago, we lost Montae ‘M Bone’ Talbert of the’Teach Me How to Dougie’ famed group, Cali Swag District, and it’s ashame that these young black adults are not able to see their future all the way through. It’s time for hip hop to really look deep into what we are promoting and representing. Not that it would have saved Lil Phat, but just the thought of hearing lyrics about taking another brother out, really hits home when you see a crime like this. Instead of art imitating life, it seems like art is eliminating life.
